Lessons from a Use-Inspired International Collaboration in Marine Research
Daniel Pauly, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada
A marine biologist will share lessons for interdisciplinary teams based on the “Sea Around Us,” a project to assess the impact of fishing on the world’s marine ecosystems, which he began in 1999. The project has synthesized knowledge across disciplines as diverse as economics, geography, and ecology to enrich scientific understanding of marine ecosystems worldwide with data, tools, and numerous publications in the most competitive journals, and to inform fisheries practice and policies.
